Bubble Barrier Boat

Dina Chehab

A hybrid boat + bubble curtain.

  • While moving, it releases a stream of bubbles to push floating plastics toward its intake funnel.

  • Skims the water surface and traps trash in a container.

  • Ideal for cleaning river mouths before waste reaches the ocean.

RiverSweep Drone

RiverSweep Drone

A solar-powered boat that patrols rivers and canals.

  • Two side “wings” guide floating bottles, cans, and plastic into a conveyor belt.

  • The belt lifts debris into an onboard bin, while clean water drains back.

  • GPS lets it follow pre-set routes or be driven manually with a remote.

ClearSea Bot

Dina Chehab

ClearSea Bot is a semi-autonomous or remote-controlled water-cleaning robot that skims the surface of lakes, rivers, or coastal waters to collect floating debris such as plastic bottles, bags, and microplastics trapped in surface scum.

How it works:

  • Moves slowly across the water using solar-powered propellers.

  • Uses a floating “boom” or funnel at the front to guide trash into a collection basket inside the robot.

  • Has fine mesh filters to trap small pieces of plastic and allow clean water to flow back out.

  • Sensors detect wildlife to avoid harming fish or birds.

What it does:

  • Collects and stores floating waste until it reaches capacity.

  • Can send a signal when full so it can be emptied at shore.

  • Data sensors track the type and amount of trash collected for research.

Why it’s needed:

  • A large portion of plastic waste stays afloat or near the surface, threatening aquatic life.

  • ClearSea Bot makes it easy for cities or community groups to clean harbors, rivers, and lakes quickly without harming wildlife.

BeBot

Kate James

Much of the plastic waste in the ocean is trapped on the shoreline and washes up on beaches. Th BeBot was designed to address this trash problem.

BeBot is a remote-controlled beach-combing robot that screens sand, rakes seaweed, levels out expanses of beach, and lifts and carries loads. It collects all waste buried in the defined area, which can then be disposed of properly or recycled.

Pixie Drone

Kate James

PixieDrone is a drone that collects floating waste. Remote-controlled or operating fully autonomously, it allows quick cleanup of shoreline waterways. It has a 160 liter collection capacity and up to 6 hours of operation in autonomous mode. It is fully compatible with salt water, fresh water and brackish water.

Mr. Trash Wheel

Kate James

80% of ocean trash enters the ocean through rivers. Intercepting that trash before it gets to the ocean could significantly help with the pollution problem.
In the harbor in Baltimore, MD, U.S., Mr. Trash Wheel catches plastic pollution from a local river. Its containment booms direct trash flowing down the river into its mouth where a rake lifts it onto a conveyor belt.

Microplastic Removal Using Sound Waves

Kate James

Scientists have discovered the there is potential to use sound waves as a technique for aggregating micro plastics to be removed from waterways. The sound waves move and vibrate the particles of plastic, causing them to accumulate in flowing water and making it more efficient to filter them out.

Suzuki Micro-Plastic Collection Motor

Kate James

To tackle the issues of micro plastics in the ocean, in October 2020 Suzuki announced the development of a Micro-Plastic Collecting Device which can be equipped to outboard motors. By installing this device to outboard motors, micro-plastics near the water surface can be collected simply by running the boat.
